Research has shown that there are great benefits to regular deep relaxation, not just for mental health and well-being, but for our physical health as well. In this class we will practice some gentle movement and stretching (suitable for all fitness levels), some breathing techniques that help to engage and strengthen our relaxation response, and a guided visualization intended to let the nervous system become very calm. Participants should bring a yoga mat, blanket, or cushion as well as any other items that would help make their relaxation more comfortable.
Kate Wester has always been drawn to the intersection of the expressive arts, contemplative spirituality, and bodycentered practices. She is a textile artist, a yoga teacher, and is currently studying for her Masters in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola University. In 2012 Kate became certified to teach Shake Your Soul from the Leven Institute of Expressive Movement. In 2014 she completed a 500 hour certification as a SomaSoul practitioner and is a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist (RSMT).
